I don't want to buy another hard drive for this thing because I already gave the buyer the list of parts that it needed and I'm not sure the hard drive is the problem. I left the computer in that state over night but it didn't un-hang. I thought perhaps my image was somehow a problem so I started a fresh install as well which yielded the same results. It hangs on a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner. I installed it into this laptop, applied the image that I have and restarted the computer but it doesn't boot into Windows. I ran chkdsk on it on another computer and it came up OK. So I grabbed another used hard drive that I had laying around. I was going to try running SpinRite on the hard drive but it's no longer even detected. I set about installing Windows XP Pro onto the machine only to find that the hard drive that was installed failed. It needed some parts which the buyer was told about up front. I have an old P4 laptop that I found a buyer for. Having a problem that I never ran into and need a little insight.
